Holiday Meal Gifts

Whether your group can come to the Center or is looking for activities that can be done from home, there are many ways to make a wonderful impact.   Here are some ideas to get you started…  We would love your help!  Contact Volunteer Coordinator Brooke Lykins at 213-680-0600 or brookel@dwcweb.org

Be in Charge of Welcome Baskets!
Many women just moving in to the Residence may not own or have the means to purchase linens and items that will help her feel at home.   Your group can create or sponsor baskets filled with pretty linens to help welcome each new Resident to the Center.  Variation:  Help us celebrate every Resident’s birthday by sponsoring birthday gifts for a year.

What is needed for this activity:
Please include new (unused) items
Decorative basket or box
Set of full-sized sheets & pillowcases
Bath & face towels
Decorations/embellishments

    Throw a Baking Party!

Unleash the Martha Stewart within!  Who can resist the homey smells of baking?  Bring supplies to make cut-out cookies with the women... or share a family recipe and tradition.  Baking makes any day special!  Variation:  Craft party

Items needed:
Recipes
Ingredients enough to make several batches
special supplies (i.e. cookie cutters)

Adopt an Alternative to a Canned Food Drive!

We are all familiar with holiday toy and canned food drives—they are a great way for a lot of people to affordably contribute to a cause.  But maybe your group is looking for something a little different.  If that’s the case, what about:  A Slippers Drive, a Phone Card Drive, a Professional Clothing Drive, a Plus-Sized Clothing Drive, or a New Linens Drive…?

Make a Meal
Special meals are always welcome at the Center.  We know it’s intimidating to coordinate a meal for 50 people.  Whether you want to bring food already prepared to serve or cook in our kitchen, we can help with ideas and tips for making your meal a success!  For suggestions for holiday meal items, click here
