DWC Cooking Club

Benefiting the women of the Downtown Women's Center!

How It Works: Help cook a meal to serve as lunch the next day in DWC's Day Center.  We'll provide you the recipe and guidance in cooking for a crowd!  By bringing some of the needed ingredients for the meal you'll help defray the Center's food costs and see exactly where your donation goes.  No regular attendance is required -- you can simply sign up for the meetings that work for your schedule!

Get Involved...

How:        Brooke, the Volunteer Coordinator, sends out an e-mail a week in advance to each Cooking Club meeting with needed ingredients.  No advance sign-ups are taken....just sign up when you receive the e-mail

When:        We meet as often as possible -- usually on Tues., Wes., or Thurs. nights...

A Note About the Importance of Ingredients What if I can't make it at the last minute?  If you don't show up, neither do your ingredients!  We really encourage you to only sign up for the meetings you know you'll be able to attend.  The beauty of the cooking club is that no regular commitment is required and you will always have plenty of opportunities to attend.  However, when you sign up, you are committing yourself to bringing the ingredients you have selected.  You may also make a cash donation.
Getting Here and Other Details

Here's some super-detailed information about parking...you might need it.  Our Center sits on a large parking lot called "Joe's Parking" which encompasses an entire city block.

  • Use the Main St. or 4th St. entrances (the Los Angeles St. entrance is closed in the evening).

  • Tell the attendant you are here for the Women's Center and you will not be charged.

  • Park underneath or near our mural (Occasionally film crews or special events use this lot and you will not be able to park under the mural -- the attendant will direct you to another spot in the lot.)

  • What our building looks like:  There is NO sign proclaiming the "Downtown Women's Center" (that would be too easy and conventional!).  Instead look for the colorful mural on the North and West side of the building.  Our adjoining building, the Residence, is a three-story yellow building.
